CELEBRATION OF THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2024
The WISE IWD24 celebration held in Kaduna State, Nigeria on March 9th, 2024, was a significant event that brought together women and men from various backgrounds to commemorate International Women’s Day (IWD) under the theme “Inspire Inclusion” with a sub-theme focusing on “Inclusive access to natural resources.”
Notable attendees included Mrs Iman Abubakar Buba, the wife to the Commissioner of the Kaduna State Ministry of Environment, and Honourable Princess Leah Olusiyi Solomon, a former aspirant to the National Assembly from Taraba State. The event also featured special guests and participants from different sectors.
Highlights of the celebration included a dancing competition, ‘Gele’ tying, and a special dance performance by students from the School for the Deaf. A panel discussion titled “The Green Aisle” centred on the inclusion of women in decision-making regarding environmental policies, recognizing their crucial role as stakeholders in environmental matters.
The event also honoured exemplary individuals with awards, including Honourable Abubakar Buba, the Commissioner of Environment for Kaduna State, as well as professionals and activists such as Mr Chima Nnaedozie, Mr Chris Obi, Mrs Victoria Adesina, and Mrs Esther Augustine Nyam.
Mrs. Olanike Olugboji Daramola, the Director of WISE, was also recognized with an Award of Excellence from the Sabon Gari Peace Initiative.
Over 1500 attendees participated in a raffle draw, generously sponsored by partners, and left the event with gifts. Some lucky participants received prizes exceeding the value of their raffle tickets.
The event received extensive media coverage from various outlets, including Galaxy Television and prominent news agencies such as Sunnewsonline.com, the AIT, the News Agency of Nigeria, thenewsicon.com, and gamjirereporters.com, further amplifying its impact and reach.
Partners for the event included Women’s Earth Alliance (WEA), Promasidor-Twisco, Atmosfair, Burn, Nenu Engineering Limited, Micromanna Limited, Green Land Fati Gold, Women Group Leaders, and esteemed individuals, reflecting a collaborative effort towards promoting gender inclusion and sustainable environmental practices.
