Every March 21st, the world comes together to celebrate World Planting Day—a day dedicated to nurturing the earth by planting trees, flowers, and vegetables while raising awareness about the importance of plants in sustaining life.
In line with this vision, Reaching Out of School Children invited WISE and Wisoak(a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming lives especially through education) to partner with them, in taking bold steps to address environmental challenges, particularly climate change, through dedicated tree-planting campaigns. As part of the activities leading up to World Planting Day, on Wednesday, March 19th, 2025, a total of 15 trees were planted at Government Model Basic School, Sabon Gari Afaka – Mando. Also, the students were encouraged to take proper care of the plants as the plants would in years to come care for them.

Why Tree Planting Matters
Plants and trees are more than just beautiful additions to our surroundings—they are the backbone of life on Earth.
They:
✅ Supply oxygen– Trees absorb carbon dioxide and release the oxygen we breathe.
✅ Prevent soil erosion– Their roots help bind the soil, reducing the risk of landslides and desertification.
✅ Provide food – From fruits and vegetables to grains, trees sustain both humans and wildlife.
✅ Support biodiversity – Trees serve as habitats for countless species of birds, insects, and animals.
✅ Aid in medicine production – Many life-saving medicines are derived from plants.
✅ Combat climate change – Trees absorb greenhouse gases, serves as windbreakers and reducing global warming effects.
A Call to Action: Plant a Tree, Grow a Garden
WISE encourages individuals, communities, and organizations to take active steps in protecting the environment. Whether it’s planting a tree in your backyard, growing a small garden, or supporting reforestation initiatives, every action counts. This World Planting Day, let’s commit to restoring our planet. The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago—the second-best time is now!🌱💚
